The installation utilizes the architectural plan of the historic prison to construct both a garden planter filled with moss from the grounds of the prison and a pool filled with water. These two sculptures reference the philosophical conflict between the Quaker beliefs in a penal system that rehabilitates via solitary confinement and the later state penal system policy that incorporated forced labor as a means of rehabilitation.
