Each of the four fonts is a negative cast of a Romanesque Italian Cathedral, parts of which were used as a prototype for the design of the Sanctuary. From the front of the photograph, the four cathedral fonts are: Orvieto Cathedral, Cathedral of Pisa, St. Mark’s Cathedral, Venice, and San Zeno Maggiore, Verona. Each font was filled with water, which both magnified and obscured the architectural details within the fonts.
